Sophie and Alex’s Rustic Wedding at Holmes Mill

Alex very romantically proposed in Rome in 2018. 

We just absolutely love everything about Holmes Mill, we wanted something a little bit different and that suited our style. Holmes Mill ticked every single box! It was relaxed, fun and a bit quirky.

We went with a rustic theme, lots of greenery and eucalyptus, the bridesmaids were in sage green.

We walked down the aisle to ‘Sweet Child O’ Mine’ by Guns N Roses – a rendition played live by the string quartet.

We had canapes during reception drinks and the formal dining menu for our wedding breakfast. Even though we wanted a chilled vibe for the day, we are also big foodies so wanted to keep that formality. Obviously, we did the grub for evening food – burger bar which was delicious.

We had a string quartet for the ceremony and reception drinks, this added a whole dimension to the start of the day and I’m so glad we did this. For evening entertainment, we had a band who were also our friends so they were fully briefed on the style of music that would get everyone up dancing!

Nick English was our photographer, we wanted someone with a relaxed style and not too posey, Nicks style was perfect for us and he was also super great on the day. We found Nick through tagged photos on Holmes Mill Instagram.

We had Charlie from Holmes Mill, throughout covid we spoke to a few others in between but she was there at the start and the end which were the most important parts to help our wedding come together. She was really great!

Alex’s mum Fran was extremely helpful towards the wedding, she actually found the venue and many other things. Fran was constantly on it with ideas and really pushed along the planning.

Alex and I allowed a number of occasions to have a couple of minutes together to really take everything in, we got this advice from a number of people so we knew we wanted to do this. So many people say they barely saw their husband/wife as the day goes so quickly and we didn’t want this to be the case.
