We had both our wedding and reception at Holmes Mill. We had already provisionally reserved a different venue and happened to go to Holmes Mill for lunch one day when they were having a wedding fair. We felt it was a much better fit for our personalities and wedding theme so switched!
It wasn’t a set ‘theme’ as such. I think we both had been to quite formal weddings previously and knew that we wanted something that was quite laid back and fun so of course we booked DFC and Stella Photography – they were perfect in ensuring our day had the exact vibe we wanted.
We also had a vision in mind for the style and chose Sam Williams Flowers to bring it to life, we asked her to ‘do her thing’ and a lot of it was a surprise for us on the day which was lovely. I think we had quite similar ideas anyway when it came to the flowers and styling, so we just gave her our budget and left her to it. The result was stunning!
It was ‘I can’t help falling in love with you’ – Kina Grannis.
To tie in with our ‘laid back, fun’ theme we chose to do the ‘pit roast and brew’ buffet. We had a set budget in mind for our day and knowing our guests felt they would appreciate most of it to be spent on the booze! The wedding coordinators were great when it came to advising on budget and how to make things more cost effective.
We also had canapes during the drinks reception, a ‘barrow of beers’ and ‘pimp your prosecco’ station along with house wines and buckets of beers along the tables. We actually somehow ended up with too much wine and the wedding coordinators kept the unopened bottles to one side for us to take home.
We booked Mike at DFC as our DJ and Danny P (also from DFC) who is an acoustic singer who sang at the drinks reception – it wouldn’t have been the same without him and his voice sounded amazing in the engine room.
Our first dance song was ‘Stay with you’ by John Legend.
Stella Photography. Seb and Zuzi are just the craziest, most fun guys to have around. Our guests all loved them and they produced the most beautiful photos and wedding video.
Our wedding coordinator was Ellie, although the whole team supported in the planning of the day.
We had a vision in mind for our day and thanks to the most amazing team of suppliers we were able to bring it to life in exactly the way we wanted it. One year on and we still aren’t over it! We loved every second of our day and have the most wonderful memories to last us a lifetime.
