We chose Falcon Manor in Settle for the wedding ceremony and evening reception. We loved the venue & décor, the roaring fires, candles, views and relaxed atmosphere of the place. We live in Settle, so it was perfect for us.
No, we decided to keep things very simple, the venue sold itself, in my opinion didn’t require tonnes of flowers and decoration, plus it was decorated a day earlier for Xmas. The men wore tweed suits and my bridesmaids wore two shades of grey dresses.
We chose Oasis- ‘Don’t Look Back in Anger’, it always gives me goosebumps now!
We had a late wedding ceremony (3pm) with a small handful of close family and friends then a drinks reception and canapes. We opted to not have a formal sit-down meal with seating plans and food that most people won’t eat and instead went straight into an evening reception with hog roast and all our friends and family.
We used a DJ from DFC who were great and so professional. We were quite particular about our music choices and opted for a live sax later as well.
Stephen Garnett did our photography and he was absolutely amazing, I couldn’t praise him enough!! We didn’t want formal (staged) photos and opted for more natural photos of us interacting with our guests, the results were fantastic and captured the real emotions of the day, I love looking back through them all!
Emily was our wedding co-ordinator. She was great!! She was very helpful, and nothing was too much trouble. She had great ideas and suggestions too!
When we initially began wedding planning we wanted the world, as does every bride! We chose a gorgeous venue in Cumbria of 6 Scandinavian lodges in the middle of nowhere next to a river, it was absolutely stunning.
We wanted a winter wedding with log fires, candles and fairy lights and somewhere we could wear our wellies, invite the dogs and relax in the outdoor hot tubs! There was no phone signal or Wi-Fi and we had planned 3 days of wedding celebrations for a handful of our nearest and dearest.
Once the organising commenced, we all got extremely carried away with planning our themes, handmade decorations, transport, menu choices and activities and after a few months of planning we realised we were over our heads and in too deep and I was losing sleep with stress. After much thought and worry we decided to cut our losses and cancel the venue, it wasn’t worth the stress and was taking the enjoyment out of what should have been such an amazing experience for us all.
We toyed with different ideas, from running away and eloping to a registry office ceremony and stumbled across a venue that had been on our doorstep the whole time. I had never looked at it in the same way and after a quick tour around, we realised Falcon Manor was absolutely perfect and everything that we had ever dreamed of and more! A roaring fire for my Grandad in law to sit and stoke all day, views of rolling hills, candles and more importantly a last-minute date for the 31stNovember 2018 (we booked in September).
